Passing Rules

FUN and SAFETY are the most important things to us at Tonys Track Days!

While we don't have any speed limits once you're on the track, we have developed a set of rules regarding riding behavior and passing.

If you do anything that is against the rules, you may be penalized with loss of riding time, or if the infraction is extremely dangerous, you may be asked to leave!

Some things to remember about our events are:

  • They are a NON-Competitive event.
  • No RACING or TIMING is allowed.
  • No Wheelies or Stunts are allowed.
  • Passing is restricted to certain areas.

As mentioned elsewhere, please do not sign up if you are an experienced road-racer.  Our dates are geared toward street riders, and there are strict passing rules, as well as general rules about riding too close.

The goal during the training sessions (follow-the-leader) is to ensure that everyone knows "THE LINE".

Experience has shown us that riding slow is NOT dangerous.  It is those riders who are "OFF the line" that are dangerous because they create situations where all bikes are not going the same direction.

Similar to downhill skiing, it is ALWAYS the responsibility of the faster ridee to make a SAFE pass.  To do this, it is THEIR RESPONSIBILITY to go off the line, get around safely, and then move back onto the line.  The rider being passed should not be affected in any way.

If you are the rider being passed - just relax and STAY ON LINE.   Resist the temptation to look at the other bike as that will move you TOWARD them.   Also, don't stare at the back of their bike after they pass you - pay attention to what you are doing and everything will go smooth.

As long as everyone is on the same line, and the faster riders use their head and pass in safe areas, then we will all have a GREAT day.

GROUP DESIGNATIONS:  The designations (RED, YELLOW, BLUE) are self-assigned to begin with.  We will spend a fair amount of time going over the riding groups in the RIDERS MEETING, so no need to worry about that now.

If you are new to our events, or new to the track, you must start in the RED GROUP.  We will consider moving you to another group after the 10AM session is completed.

----------

RED GROUP:

  • Designed for beginner riders, and those not comfortable being in close proximity to other riders.
  • If you're still getting the hang of cornering, this is the group for you.
  • PASSING is allowed in the 4 GRAY areas of the track map only!
  • There is NO PASSING in corners.

-----------

YELLOW GROUP:

  • Designed for intermediate riders.
  • You should be comfortable taking corners and ride your bike with great confidence.
  • You would not consider yourself an aggressive rider.

-----------

BLUE GROUP:

  • Designed for experienced riders.
  • Riders in this group should be very comfortable taking corners, as well as hard acceleration and braking.
  • On the street, you probably would consider yourself an aggressive rider.
