New Jersey Motorsports Park

For 2012, we have 6 days scheduled.  They are all Sunday and Monday combinations.  You don't have to do both days, but most riders find it beneficial as it reduces travel costs, and day two also lets you build upon what you learn on day one.

The dates are  April 29, 30  /  July 22,23  /  September 16, 17

There are two tracks at the New Jersey Motorsports Park facility, and we run on the track called THUNDERBOLT - which is the "big" track.  It is also the one they run the AMA races on so be sure to catch those races on TV.

We'll be riding on the big track called the Thunderbolt Raceway.  The track runs clockwise, with Turn 1 being at the bottom left.  You'll notice that there are two chicanes that can be used on the left hand side.  We will use the first chicane only for PIT OUT (getting onto the track).  The second chicane will be used for normal laps.

ACCESS

Riders and Guests are generally allowed into the track around 6PM the night BEFORE day one.

You must arrive before 10PM to be allowed in the night before.  Otherwise, you may enter starting around 7AM to 10AM each morning.

All participants and guests must sign a NJMP waiver at the registration building.  This is also where you can pay for camping and electricity.

CAMPING

The fees below are for the whole time... starting night before day ONE and continuing until end of day TWO.

$10.00 - Tent Camping

$35.00 - Electric Only

$75.00 - RV and Campers ( Includes Electric )

HOTEL Suites:

The track has a limited number of hotel suites right next to the garages.  The cost for these are about $100 per night and include 2 queen beds.  If you'd like to reserve one of these suites, please visit this page of the NJ track website.  http://njmp.com/vip.html

The track also has condos on the property.  They call them VILLAS and I believe they sleep about 8 or so... and run around $350.  http://www.njmp.com/vilas.html

If you don't want to camp and don't want to stay in one of these Hotel Suites, then the next best bet is one of the hotels listed on this page:

GARAGES:

There are plenty of garages available for use during the day, and you can leave your bike in there overnight if you're doing multiple days.  The garages are not locked, so it is recommended that you bring a good lock for your bike.  The fee is $15 for one day or $25 for two days  (when you order your trackday you can order garage space too).

WHERE TO GO:

OK...   After you sign in with the track personnel, you'll take a LEFT  turn to head toward THUNDERBOLT.  You'll then take a quick right, and follow that road over the bridge and inside the Thunderbolt track area.

The VIP suites mentioned above will be on your LEFT as you're looking at the garages.  The suites are actually along the front straight, while the garages are perpendicular to it.

BELOW are two TRACK MAPS with the passing areas for the respective groups.  The RED areas indicate NO PASSING areas.

In our beginner or slow group, we allow passing in 6 areas of the track.  On average, you should not be "stuck" behind a slower rider for more than 15 seconds or so.  Remember, if you find yourself behind a large group of riders, the smart move is to relax and work on your reference points... and then roll through pit area slowly.   If there's a large pack of bikes together, that means there is plenty of empty track somewhere.

The Intermediate and Advanced groups will follow the rules below.  Basically, we are only limiting passes from the entry cone to the exit cone.  These corners are so fast, that most of the no passing zones go by in less than two seconds.  On the longer corners (between 7 and 8, and 9) we allow outside passing.  We don't allow passing in the "esses" or before the "kink" onto the front straight.  It is simply too high speed and bikes are "flip flopping" too quickly to safely designate an "outside".

In NEW JERSEY, we are running 4 groups.  The BLACK group will be our most advanced group, and it has only one passing rule.  There is no passing on the INSIDE from the Tip In point to the APEX.
